PLO Plans War with Israel
Farouk Kadoumi, head of the PLO's diplomatic desk, says that a Palestinian
state will be established in May 1999, and that it will wage war against
Israel. In an interview published in the Palestinian Authority's newspaper
Al Hayat al-Jadeeda, Kadoumi said that after the new state is recognized by
most of the world, the Palestinians will use their weapons to fight against
the Israeli presence on what he called "Palestinian lands." He said that
the only differences between Hamas and the PLO involve the tactics by which
to reach their common goal.
David Bar-Illan, a top Netanyahu media advisor, said in response, "Kadoumi
has shown the true face of Palestinian intentions - war with Israel."

Peace treaty signing Egypt prepares for war
EGYPT PREPARING FOR WAR
Egypt's advanced plans for war against Israel were outlined in an extensive
article in the weekend edition of HaTzofeh. HaTzofeh editor Gonen Ginat
told Arutz-7 today that "Egypt's war plans have been discussed and boasted
about openly by top members of the country's security establishment. For
example, during Egypt's largest-ever military exercise in the fall of 1996,
its Defense Minister Muhammad Dantawi told reporters straight out that the
training was in preparation for an upcoming war with Israel." The article
details Egypt's increased levels of arms, both in quality and quantity, in
air, rocket, naval, and ground power. "The Egyptian military has become
increasingly advanced," Ginat said, "thanks in part to more sophisticated
U.S. tanks which the Americans have not only provided, but have trained the
Egyptians to build independently. These tanks surpass those of Israel on a
number of counts." When questioned as to why his paper, and not the
political establishment, is disseminating this information, Ginat noted,
"The issue of war with Egypt is taboo. The attitude of the average Israeli
is not to disturb one of the only peace treaties we have with a neighboring
Arab state. As such, politicians are afraid to raise the issue with a
public that is unwilling to confront it. This hesitance to upset people's
perceptions reminds me of the story of my former editor, Ya'akov Erez, who
was a military correspondent in 1973. He had written a report prior to the
Yom Kippur War, warning of Egypt's imminent plans to attack Israel. The
censor blocked the story. Erez has the report hanging over his desk to
this day as a reminder that we can't afford to bury our heads in the sand."
[Arutz-7's Yehoshua Mor-Yosef noted that the Israeli daily Yediot
Acharonot reported today that prior to the Yom Kippur War, exactly 25 years
ago, the government received over 1500 intelligence reports regarding an
imminent Arab attack.]

Arafat's newspaper, Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah, declared in an editorial on August 14, 1998: "One should not be surprised by the attacks and the anti-American violence. The Americans are the ones who created this violence and utilized it for a long period of time. They have no one to blame for themselves."
Other anti-America statements and actions by Arafat and other Palestinian Arab leaders:
On March 25, 1998, the PA newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah published an article which declared: "Washington's decisions are not made in the White House, which is busy cleaning up its bedrooms, but in the offices of Netanyahu, who is feverishly trying to recruit America and its allies to serve the hated agenda of Torah."
On February 18, 1998, the PA newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah published a communique issued by Arafat's Fatah faction of the PLO. It included a fabricated reference to Benjamin Franklin: "Is it not significant for us, Arabs and Muslims, that a fraction of humankind --perceiving themselves to be of unique descent chosen by Allah to rule the world--spell doom for all nations on earth, emanating from [their] superiority complex, a complex of the new Nazism and the new racist Aryan race?
"This spells doom for the U.S. itself, as was exhorted by the American President, Benjamin Franklin, who in 1789 warned of the massive Jewish immigration into the U.S. and demanded that it be lawfully halted. Franklin claimed that if Jews were permitted entry into the U.S., they would take over the country's resources within a hundred years; and that if they were not promptly curtailed, they would tyrannize the American people who would become subservient to them, while they would sit in their offices, rubbing their hands and playing with the world's resources. Doesn't the American administration embody Franklin's prophecy these days?"

In the October 30, 1997 issue of the PA's Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah, editor Hafez Barghouti called the U.S. Congress "the Council of the Elders of Zion" and mocked the new American ambassador to Israel, Ned Walker, saying he "behaves wickedly like them [the Israelis]."
The PA's Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah, on October 3, 1997 called U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright "vulgar and insolent" and "has reached the stage of immorality" because "she is no longer perturbed by Arab condemnations [of Israel]." The article continued: "The lady visited the region and spat like a snake in the face of Arab statesmen. They praised her and would have sung love songs to her were it not for her advanced age and the fact that she has passed her prime." The article was authored by the newspaper's editor, Hafez Barghouti.
The PA-appointed Mufti (top Islamic religious authority) Sheikh Ikrama Sabri, in his weekly sermon at Jerusalem's Al Aqsa mosque on September 12, 1997, declared: "Oh Allah, destroy America, her agents, and her allies! Cast them into their own traps, and cover the White House with black!" The speech was broadcast on the PLO's Voice of Palestine Radio, immediately after it broadcast a speech by U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Two months earlier, in his weekly sermon at Jerusalem's Al Aqsa mosque on July 11, 1997, Sabri declared: "Oh Allah, destroy America, for she is ruled by Zionist Jews! Allah will paint the White House black!"
Arafat's official newspaper, Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah, published a statement on February 8. 1998, by Arafat's Fatah faction of the PLO, which "called upon the public and the political forces to organize rallies and conferences identifying with Iraq."
In an editorial in Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah on February 8, 1998, editor Hafez Barghouti wrote that the American weapons inspectors in Iraq "belong to what we thought was an endangered species called Hitler." Barghouti added that even if Iraq permitted the inspectors access to Iraqi weapon sites, "Monica's boyfriend would have declared that he would attack Iraq so it would surrender to the international community's will."
At a mass pro-Iraq rally by Palestinian Arab school-children in El Bireh on February 5, 1998, the Arafat-appointed head of the Nablus Islamic Religious Courts, Sheik Hamad al-Bitawi, declared: "The U.S. oppression and corruption have crossed a line...supporting the Iraqi people is a religious and human duty." (Al Quds, Feb. 6, 1998)
Arafat's Secretary of the Presidency, Al-Tayyib Abd Al-Rahim, said in a speech to PA police officers on February 5 that Arafat had denounced America's "rage against Iraq." (Al Quds, Feb. 6, 1998)
PA Cabinet Minister Azzam Al-Ahmad delivered a letter from Arafat to Saddam Hussein on February 5, saying "We give President Saddam Hussein the Palestinian people's support for Iraq, and its total opposition to the American threats of using military force in order to resolve the current crisis." (Al Quds, Feb.6, 1998)
"O Allah, grant victory to the Iraqi Muslim people over the hateful America and its allies." (Sermon by Sheik Ismail Al-Nawahdha, broadcast on the PA's Voice of Palestine Radio, January 30, 1998)
"The PLO factions condemn the American policy that contains nothing but hatred of Iraq and the Arab people." (Excerpt from a communique by Arafat's Fatah faction and other PLO factions, quoted in the pro-Arafat newspaper Al Quds, January 19, 1998)
"I am willing to fight as a soldier against anyone fighting Iraq." (Ali Abu Shahin, one of Arafat's cabinet minister, in the official PA's Al-Hayat Al- Jadidah, on Dec. 1, 1997)
"I send blessings to the brother Iraqi people and its leadership, since the two people, Iraqi and Palestinian, are together in the same trench." (Arafat, quoted in the pro-Arafat newspaper Al Quds on Nov.30, 1997)
American's stance towards Iraq is a reflection of "the theory of Western superiority over the entire Arab people, which dreams of destroying the Arab race, since it opposes American evil which inherited the old and the new colonialism." (Article in Al-Hayat Al-Jadida on November 30, 1997, by its editor, Hafez Barghouti.)
The pro-Arafat newspaper Al Quds reported on November 30, 1997, that "Under the auspices of President Arafat, a meeting in support of the Iraqi people was held yesterday in Hebron...The Secretary-General of the Presidency [of the PLO's Palestinian Authority], Al-Tayyib Abd Al-Rahim, delivered President Arafat's blessing to the brother Iraqi people and its leadership, since the two people, Iraqi and Palestinian, are together in the same trench."
The PA newspaper Al Hayat Al Jadidah, in a November 15, 1997 editorial by editor Hafez Barghouti, described the United States as "the murderers of humanity, the creators of the barbaric culture, and the blood-suckers of the nations, who are doomed to death and destined to shrink to a microscopic size, like Micronesia."
(Translation courtesy of Palestinian Media Review.)
The Jerusalem Post reported on November 6, 1997, that Palestinian Authority's embassy in Baghdad "is being used as a repository for secret documents that relate to Iraq's buildup of unconventional weapons...[T]he site's diplomatic immunity evidently keeps the documents beyond the reach of United Nations arms inspectors. The documents relate to the purchase of raw materials required for Iraq's manufacture and deployment of weapons of mass destruction [including] chemical weapons, VX nerve gas, and possibly nuclear arms." The Post noted that the PA embassy "is situated in Arafat's private residence in Baghdad, a heavily guarded palatial structure well inside a compound."
A Palestinian Authority delegation met in Baghdad in September 1997 with Udai Hussein, son of the Iraqi dictator, "in a warm and friendly atmosphere." (Khaled Abu Taomeh, reporting in the Jerusalem newspaper Yerushalayim, September 5, 1997)
The official Iraqi News Agency, in Baghdad, reported on July 10, 1997 that Arafat sent a message which "conveyed the greetings of the Palestinian president to President Saddam Hussein and reiterated the Palestinian people's pride in their close relations with the Iraqi people and in the principled and firm Iraqi positions in the face of the challenges and conspiracies implemented by the enemies of the Arab nation. [Iraqi Vice President Taha Yasin] Ramadan expressed on behalf of President Saddam Hussein his thanks to his brother President Arafat..."
The PLO's Palestinian Legislative Council denounced the U.S. missile strike in western Iraq (in response to Iraqi attacks on Kurds there in 1996), as "American aggression against the sister state, Iraq." The PA also urged Arab states to provide Iraq "any form of financial aid and moral support...so that sister Iraq can recapture her natural place in the taking of the national and pan-Arab responsibility." (An Nahar, Sept. 5, 1996)
Arafat visited Iraq in 1993, met with Saddam, and hailed "the greatness of the Iraqi people and their leader." (Jerusalem Post, Feb. 3, 1993)
In 1991, the PLO representative in Washington, Hassan Abu Rahman, circulated a fabricated transcript of a radio interview in which U.S. General Norman Schwarzkopf supposedly "admitted" that "the war that our men fought against Saddam Hussein was for Israel, our men fought to destroy Israel's main enemy in the region." (Jerusalem Post, June 5, 1991)
During the 1990-1991 Persian Gulf crisis, PLO chairman Yasir Arafat was Saddam Hussein's closest Arab ally. After the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, the PLO denounced America's opposition to the occupation, accusing Washington of "beating the drums of a destructive war and raising tension toward a complete explosion." (Jerusalem Post, Aug. 14, 1990)
According to the London Independent, "much of the logistical planning for the Iraqi invasion was based on intelligence supplied by PLO officials and supporters based in Kuwait." (Jerusalem Post, Aug. 8, 1990)
While the United States was condemning the Chinese government's massacre of pro-democracy students in Tiannenmen Square in 1990, Yasir Arafat sent a telegram to the Chinese leaders expressing his "extreme gratification that the friendly People's Republic of China has restored normal order after the recent incidents." The letter was published in the Chinese Communist Party newspaper, People's Daily, on June 27, 1989.
While the United States was cheering the downfall of the oppressive Ceausescu regime in Romania in 1990, Yasir Arafat sent PLO fighters to help Ceausescu combat pro-democracy protesters. (The New Republic, January 22, 1990)

Taxed by torture" by Graham Usher, Al-Ahram Weekly 20-26 August 1998
EXCERPTS: ... Walid Mahmoud Al-Qawasmi became the 20th Palestinian to die in PA custody. A manager of a Bethlehem insurance firm and father of eight, Al-Qawasmi had been arrested in Hebron on 25 July by officers from the PA's General Intelligence Service (GIS), one of the PA's 11 intelligence forces that operate in the Occupied Territories.
Two weeks later, his family visited him at a GIS detention centre in Jericho. Clearly in declining health, Al-Qawasmi's only comment was that he was "innocent." It is unclear of what, since the GIS had filed no charges against him.
On 9 August Al-Qawasmi died en route from Jericho to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus.. ... A witness at the autopsy told the Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group (PHRMG) that Al-Qawasmi's death was the result of a brain haemorrhage caused by a fractured skull. The fracture, said the witness, was the result of "severe beating to the head."
Why was Al-Qawasmi arrested? A report on Israel's Army Radio quoted Palestinian security sources as saying that Al-Qawasmi was suspected of selling land to Israelis. But Al-Qawasmi's Palestinian acquaintances reject the explanation. Al-Qawasmi was involved in insurance, not real estate, they say, and had a clean reputation in the community. The allegation is further weakened by the PA's unusual response to the death.
Five Palestinians suspected of land-dealing (a crime viewed as collaboration by the PA and the vast majority of Palestinians) have been killed since the PA was installed in 1994. The corpses are usually dumped outside the Palestinian areas and usually accompanied by official denials from the PA that it had anything to do with the deaths (a disavowal that has convinced neither the Israeli government nor Palestinian human rights groups). In Al-Qawasmi's case, however, the PA could not deny involvement. Nor, for the most part, did it try to.
On 10 August, Arafat ordered an official investigation into the circumstances of Al-Qawasmi's death, pledging that the findings would be "revealed soon."
Neither the condolences nor the promise of an official inquiry cut much ice with Palestinian human rights groups. "There have been 20 such promises, every time, in fact, a Palestinian dies in PA custody," says Bassem Eid, the PHRMG's director. "Nothing will come from the investigation."
Eid believes the reason for Al-Qawasmi's arrest may have been financial and that the PA's decision to open an investigation was less to uncover the facts than to prevent the public and PLC from probing too deeply into the real cause of his detention by the GIS.
Eid bases his hunch on 40 testimonies collected by his organisation over the last two years from Palestinian contractors and sub-contractors, mostly from the Hebron area. Thirty-six of the testimonies accuse the GIS and the PA's Preventive Security Force (PSF) of illegal arrest, torture and prolonged detention, sometimes as long as 14 months. The charge levelled against the contractors is tax fraud, with the GIS and PSF alleging that the contractors are producing fake invoices to evade paying taxes to the PA. Under interrogation, and often under torture, some of the detainees have confessed to the crime. But the issue at hand is "not whether the individual contractors are innocent or guilty," says Eid. "It is the illegal procedures used against them."
Aside from the use of torture and absence of any due process, the most disturbing aspect of the detainees' testimonies is the obscurity over where the money extorted from them eventually ends up. Most claim they paid cash, without getting a receipt, directly to the intelligence forces to secure their release. But the PA's Ministry of Finance says it has received payment from only one of the victims. "On the basis of our testimonies, we are talking about one million shekels that is currently unaccounted for," says Eid. "Where is the money?"
Many Palestinians have a fair idea, though few would openly say so. According to the Oslo Accords, the PA is supposed to employ around 21,000 people in its security forces, paid and accounted for out of the PA's budget. But the actual number of Palestinians currently working for the security and intelligence bodies is between 35,000 and 40,000. How these excess officers are salaried, equipped and armed has long been a source of speculation by PLC members and by Palestinians at large.
And, on the basis of the PHRMG's report, it is difficult to resist the conclusion that
the PA security forces, under the pretext of clamping down on tax fraud, are extorting
money from Palestinian civilians to fund the militaristic regime that increasingly rules
over them rather than on their behalf.

B"H July 30, 1998 6 MenachemAv, 5758
To the Rabbis of the Jewish people in every place re: Danger to Life
Peace and Blessings.
We send you this special message to inform you that the local Arabs surrounding us have for months been performing military training exercises with live fire and cannons, preparing for their attack on us, the Jewish communities. The situation is unbearable, and we are pleading with you to relate to our situation.
This activity is separate from the war preparations being conducted by the "Palestinian Police." We are discussing here the local Arabs training with the tens of thousands of automatic weapons which they have acquired since the forming of the Autonomy. We hear the shooting here in Nachliel, and it is also heard in Neve Tzuf, Ateret, and in Nili, Talmon and in Dolev. The shooting is also heard in the Shechem area - in Yitzhar, Alon Moreh, and Itamar (where there was a shooting attack on a Jewish family this past Friday). Not only in the Shomron - I also have reports from Anash who live in the Judea area - Hevron, Kiryat Arba, and the area. I almost could not find an area in the whole Yehuda-Shomron where this phenomena has not been observed to be snowballing in a frightening way in the past months.
We see this taking place outside our windows, and hear it day and night in our homes. At times we hear ourselves surrounded on three sides by cannon and automatic weapons fire, and we see - even without aid of binoculars - how the Arabs are practicing with their machine guns, running and shooting, running and shooting, training carefully and well. All of the Jewish residents here are under great stress and anxiety because of this state of affairs, and we constantly report to Tzahal how we see with our own eyes that the Arabs are preparing literally day and night to overrun and slaughter the Jewish communities here. The cruel and cynical answer of the army is that there is nothing to worry about, for the shooting that we hear is only Arab wedding celebrations. This is the outcome of Tzahal's do- nothing policy which seeks to keep the Jews as subdued as possible, even as the Arabs continue to plan and practice our slaughter.
I learned recently from the Area Brigade Commander Col. "Y." that according to the most current army information, there is "high probability" that the Arabs plan in the next confrontation with Israel to conduct an all-inclusive assault, such that if the Palestinian Police and local armed population attack in Israel's interior, Syria and Egypt will threaten and even attack our borders . In such a scenario, the Yishuvim will have to fend for themselves as the regular army rushes to the front lines. We will only be able to expect reinforcements later. Drawing on our experience from the Sukkos riots two years ago, the army is incapable of protecting all the Yishuvim simultaneously.
Our equipment is sorely inadequate compared to the vast weapons stores found in every single Arab village. Any attempt to reply adequately to the heavy volume of Arab fire will be out of the question. The situation is similar in all the yishuvim. We beg you to raise a bitter and desperate outcry which will be heard over all the radios and read in all the newspapers - that Israel must take the situation into hand immediately, for the danger to life is very great now. Has the time not come to awaken Israel to the situation?
Dear Rabbis! If you don't believe us, we invite you send an emissary to come and spend two days here with us. He will see and hear everything. Let one of the Rabbis come and see for himself our grave situation. May the self sacrifice of our fathers, sages, and holy men provide you strength to make decisions to take immediate action to save Jewish lives.

The Wall Street Journal has provided a fresh outlook on the latest Iraqi crisis through the perspective of the Jonathan Pollard affair. An August 6th article by Boston University Prof. Angelo Codevilla, a former senior staff member of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, shows that although what Pollard did was undeniably against the law, it should now be realized that he did not hurt Washington's intelligence operations per se, but only "subverted U.S. policy in the Middle East." Codevilla then goes on to show exactly what that policy was: the building of an "important" and "fruitful" relationship with Saddam Hussein, which later led directly to the Gulf War and the ensuing crises. Codevilla writes that Pollard's sin was "blowing the whistle on an embarrassing policy." By doing so, he embarrassed administration officials such as then-Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger and then-Deputy CIA Director Bobby Ray Inman, leading to Pollard's being sentenced to life instead of the more appropriate sentence of four years.
Prof. Codevilla writes, "Some senior officials of the U.S. government had decided
that Israel should not have certain information about Iraq and other Arab countries
because the officials did not like what Israel was doing with it... Some senior U.S.
officials were angry at Israel for getting in the way of their Middle East policy. In
1981, shortly after Israel had bombed the Osirak reactor that had been the centerpiece of
Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapons program, Inman went to Capitol Hill to criticize the
Israelis, who had used U.S. satellite pictures to plan the bombing. Mr. Inman said they
had harmed sophisticated U.S. efforts to build an important relationship with Saddam...
[He] reported to incredulous senators in 1982 that U.S.intelligence no longer supported
the conclusion that Iraq was a major sponsor of terrorism. High-level officials dismissed
concerns about Baghdad's purchase of a chemical facility that became the centerpiece of
Iraq's chemical and biological weapons program, and during the 1980s these officials
provided Saddam with U.S. weapons and intelligence. These officials also knew about - and
failed to hinder - the transfer of German technology to the Saad 16 missile factory in
northern Iraq. This policy, vigorously pursued by Washington until the very eve of the
Gulf War, turned Iraq into a danger to mankind. This policy helped supply the technologies
that killed U.S. soldiers in the Gulf War - the technologies for which inspectors now are
searching fruitlessly and that may well kill other Americans in the future."

..."I have raised my children on Jihad - Holy War and on the principle that they never to give up on their land. I told them that they must return " said an 81 year old refugee who fought against Jewish forces to defend his village of Beit Daras in 1948 and even today bound to a wheelchair he vows he would fight to get it back. His son, 28, said he returned with his father to visit Beit Daras in 1984 now just outside the south Israeli town of Ashkelon and he saw the remains of their house which had been demolished by Israeli soldiers. "I felt that I belonged to this land even though I was born in Gaza: he said.
"No one will accept compensation or accept being settled elsewhere - that would mean giving up our rights. "It would mean burying the Palestinians and their cause" said a 57 year old refugee who is convinced he would one day return. JERUSALEM (April 28) - The government intends to lodge a protest with the Palestinian Authority over an interview PA Chairman Yasser Arafat gave earlier this month in which he compared the Oslo Accords to a temporary truce and said he envied Palestinian suicide martyrs and hopes to become one of them.
Officials referred to Arafat's interview to the Egyptian Orbit satellite television channel on April 18 in which the PA chief compared the Oslo Accords to the broken truce Mohammed signed with Koreish tribe some 1,300 years ago.
The accords, the officials pointed out, contain an exchange of letters in which Arafat pledged to renounce terrorism and other violence.
"Everyone must know that all options are open before the Palestinian people and not just the Palestinian people but before the entire Arab nation," Arafat said in the interview.
Arafat explained his orders to stop terrorist attacks against Israel, saying that Mohammed agreed to a 10-year truce with the Koreish tribe. The agreement was opposed by one of Mohammed's chief aides, Omar Bin Khatib, who called it the "inferior peace agreement."
"I do not compare myself to the prophet, but I do say that we must learn from his steps and those of Salah a-Din," Arafat said. "The peace agreement which we signed is an 'inferior peace.'"
Arafat said he suggests "we maintain quiet. We respect agreements the way that the prophet Mohammed and Salah a-Din respected the agreements which they signed."
Historians say that Mohammed and Salah a-Din agreed to a truce with the Crusaders and then broke it within a short time.

I covered the US House International Relations Committee Hearings on September, 1995, when the head of the GAO arrived at the session to report PLO finances, as the House considered further allocations. The GAO official came with a briefcase overflowing with documents concerning the billions of dollars of assets of the PLO, yet explained to the thirty US House members that he has been advised by the US Administration, while en route to the hearing, that the documents in his briefcase were to be declared classified.
When a congresswoman asked why, he said that the reason was classified. Laughter burst out in the room.
Except that it was not funny.
A nice news story, no?
At least twenty reporters were in the hearing room.
However, their bureaus were "visited" that day by State Department people who "advised" them not to publicize anything about the hearing, which also featured twelve video clips from Arafat's American-funded Palestine Broadcasting Corporation, in which Arafat called for a continuing Jihad/holy war on the people and state of Israel.
With the exception of the Washington Jewish Week, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency and a few other Jewish papers who were not present, not one reporter who covered the session reported the hearing.
And, under pressure from the State Department, the House has never released the transcript of that hearing.

Imagine this: On this past Tuesday, March 31, the morning that Yassir Arafat made a surprise visit at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, the museum which has become a symbol of the one and a half Jewish children who were slaughterer by the Nazis, the PBC TV program modelled after "Sesame Street," with children (some as young as 4 years old, most about 8 or 9) seated in a semi-circle around a group leader, dressed in costumes and party clothes, with cartoon characters decorate the walls. From among the group a little boy stands up and, with the nursery school teacher holding the mike he says that "I will grow up to kill every Jew that I meet" On an earlier program, a young girl stands up, raises her fist and cries: "When I wander into the entrance of Jerusalem, I will turn into a suicide warrior in battledress! In battledress!"
In both cases, The leader of the official Palestinian "Sesame Street"cheers:
"Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!"
On yet another segment, a beautiful, dark haired young girl who looks to be about 6 years old sings the following words, barely a blinking of her eyes: "Each and every part of your soil I have drenched with all my blood. And we shall march as warriors of Jihad. Oh, my exalted martyr, you are my example. Oh, my companion, you are beside me. Oh, my sister, sing constantly about my life as a suicidewarrior, how we remain steadfast. Oh, my country, you are my soul. Oh, my dawn, you are my heartbeat."
Samplings of the official PBC children's workskop were aired at the March 11 hearing held at the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee special session that was convened to deal with some of the issues of the middle east peace process.
The clips were prepared by the Jerusalem-based "peace for generations" monitoring group and presented to the Senate by Dr. Daniel Pipes, editor of the Philadelphia-based Middle East Quarterly.
PBC head Radwan Abu Ayash was asked in a videotaped interview as to when he will have programs that promote peace on PBC TV.
Ayash responded matter of factly that he is not allowed to feature stories that "promote peace with the Israelis".

Lebanon's English-language Daily Star said the prospects for Middle East peace were bleak."The possibility that the charges (of affairs with women) are merely the front for an orchestrated right-wing or Zionist attack on the U.S. presidency has much wider implications, including the very real possibility of paralyzing what passes for American Middle East policy and the consequent risk of unleashing uncontrollable violence in our own back yard," it said.

There is a story where a scorpion asks a frog to give it a ride across the Suez canal. The frog says I'm not crazy you'll sting me and I'll die. The scorpion says to the frog I promise I won't sting you. I'll sign a peace agreement that I won't sting you. Besides if I sting you in the middle of the Suez canal we will both drown. The frog agrees and swims across with the scorpion on his back. Half way across the canal the scorpion stings the frog. The dying frog asks the scorpion "How could you do this? You signed an agreement. Now we will both drown. The drowning scorpion answers, "This is the Middle East".
A recent example of this occured on December 30 when Arabs ambushed an ambulance carrying Arabs to the hospital. The story follows.
A Jewish ambulance driver was attacked on Sunday by a mob of Arab stone-throwers when he was on his way to - and from - a serious accident involving several Arab cars. The driver, Chezky Betzalel of Talmon, told Arutz-7 that the Arab witnesses to the crash chose to call Israeli ambulance services and not Palestinian, as is their habit, and that on his way to the crash he clearly saw an Arab lookout at the Calandia refugee camp alerting and directing the stone-throwers towards the ambulance. Betzalel said that the attack, which occurred in an area under total Israeli control, was unprecedented in its fury and intensity. "On the way back," Betzalel said, "after treating and taking with us one of those who were seriously wounded, we saw the entire refugee camp waiting for us. We doubled back to the nearby Border Guard checkpoint, where we arranged for two jeeps to escort us. Despite this, we were again attacked from all directions, and the ambulance was unable to continue. Another ambulance soon came to replace it... They definitely knew that we were taking Arab victims, and yet they still attacked us. This is not unusual, and it happens about once a week."

Of the 36 terror suspects whose transfer is being sought by Israel, 12 are either serving in the Palestinian police or are in the process of joining its ranks. Four of these suspects are:
Imjad Muhammad Hinawi - member of Hamas who took part in the murder of 16-year old David Boim, an American-Israeli citizen, in Beit El in May 1996. The PA detained Hinawi but subsequently released him in February 1997 on holiday leave for the Id al-Fitr festival.
Nafez Mahmoud Sabih - suspected of involvement in planning the two suicide bombing attacks on Bus 18 in Jerusalem on February 25 and March 2, 1996, and the suicide bombing attack in Ashkelon on February 25, 1996. A total of 45 people were killed in the three attacks, for which Hamas claimed responsibility. Among the victims were 2 American citizens - Sara Duker and Matthew Eisenfeld.
Muhi a-Din a-Sharif - transported the explosives to the terrorist who carried out the suicide bombing attack against Bus 26 in Jerusalem in August 1995. Three people were killed in the attack, including Joan Davenny, an American schoolteacher from Connecticut, and 103 others were injured. Israel formally requested his transfer on March 13, 1996.

The Israel Government Press Office reports that for the second time in two months, a senior Palestinian Authority (PA) official has called for the destruction of the United States. Following are excerpts from the Friday prayer sermon delivered by PA Mufti Ikrama Sabri at the Al-Aksa mosque in Jerusalem on September 12, 1997. Sabri's sermon was broadcast on the Voice of Palestine, the PA's official radio station, immediately following the 10-minute address by U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to Palestinians on the same station. Sabri is the official Mufti (senior Muslim cleric) of the PA, and was appointed to his position by Yasser Arafat.
"Oh Muslims, we must raise our voices against America, its ally Britain, and all the infidel nations and say that Israel is stealing our land and establishing illegal settlements... Why does America support settlements in Israel? Are the settlements not terrorism? And therefore, America is the chief of the terrorists. Oh Allah, destroy America, her agents and her allies! Cast them into their own traps, and cover the White House with black!"
"Oh Muslims, our brothers in faith everywhere, the purpose of the American Secretary of State's visit to Palestine is to support the Israeli position regarding deceitful security and fanatical settlements... The strategic covenant between Zionism and the Crusaders is a satanic alliance hostile to Islam and the Muslims, and we expect no good from it. The Muslim masses in Palestine and the world over condemn Albright's declarations issued today and in the past two days. The masses condemn America's pro-Israeli stance, which demonstrates that global forces, the heretics, the terrorists and those filled with hate are forging an alliance against Islam and Muslims... Oh Allah, destroy America, her agents and allies! Allah, raise the flag of Islam over the Al-Aksa mosque, Jerusalem and Palestine..."

The Chairman of the Islamic Endowment in Jerusalem, Adnan Al Husseini, has warned that Islam will never, under any circumstances, agree to Jews praying on the Temple Mount. In an interview with Voice of Palestine Radio, Husseini threatened to use violence against Jews if they attempt to pray on the Temple Mount. He accused the rabbis of Yesha (Judea, Samaria and Gaza) of being responsible for the attempts by Jews to pray on the Mount. Additionally, the sheikh in the Al-Aqsa mosque attacked the decision by the Supreme Court to allow Yehuda Etzion to pray on the Temple Mount in last Fridays sermon. "We will not stand idly by," threatened the sheikh, "and we refuse to obey the decisions of this racist court. The rabbis will not enter the Al-Aqsa mosque, not over our dead bodies and shrouds." His speech was broadcast live on Voice of Palestine Radio.

The Palestine Liberation Organization, whose basic charter makes it "a national duty to... to eliminate the Zionist presence from Palestine," is only the latest in a long line of irredentists and militants to dream of wiping the Jews out of the Jewish homeland. But it may be the first that also dreams of wiping the Jews out of Jewish history.
Arab efforts to delegitimize Jews are as old as the Koran. In Sura 2:61, the Prophet Mohammed decrees that Jews be forever "consigned to humiliation and wretchedness," an injunction that Muslim rulers have often cited to justify anti-semitism.
"Our hatred for the Jews," proclaimed King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia, "dates from God's condemnation of them for their... rejection of his chosen Prophet." Arab regimes take special pains to indoctrinate that hatred into children. A textbook used in West Bank schools during the Jordanian occupation ("The Religious Ordinances Reader") instructed students that "Jews are scattered to the ends of the earth, where they live exiled and despised, since by their nature they are vile, greedy, and enemies of mankind."

The news emanating from the Palestinian Authority predictably disclosed that the murderer of David Boim, an American high school student, had escaped. Arafat's simplistic explanation was that the prisoner, the only one of the three involved in the murder who has been caught to date, incredulously had been given a holiday by Arafat, and had not returned.
This is yet another example of Arafat's serious crackdown on terrorism.

The body of the Arab real estate agent Farid al-Bashiti, who was murdered last week by Arafat's security forces, was examined today in the (Israeli) Pathological Institute in Abu Kabir. His family was refused permission to hold a funeral ceremony in a Jerusalem mosque, and the imam [the prayer leader] told them that he should be buried next to the murdered Arab who sold his Jerusalem apartment to Ariel Sharon some years ago. MK Chanan Porat (NRP) has joined his colleague MK Shaul Yahalom in asking the Attorney-General to open an investigation against top Arafat-advisor Dr. Ahmed Tibi. They claim that Tibi's remarks against Palestinians who sell land to Jews - "They have sold their soul to the devil" - constitute incitement to murder. SECOND ARAB MURDERED FOR SELLING LAND TO JEWS Harbi Muslah Abu-Sara, of the Arab village Ein-Yabrud near Ofra, was found dead with gunshot wounds in his head this past Saturday in PLO-controlled Ramallah. Villagers say that he was suspected of selling real estate to Jews. Abu-Sara's murder is the second killing of this sort since the announcement by Freih Abu-Medein, holder of the Justice Portfolio in the Palestinian Authority, that any Arab who sells land to a Jew will be executed. Yesterday, Farid al-Bashiti, a 70-year-old eastern Jerusalem real estate agent, was laid to rest after being brutally slain on suspicion of selling properties to Jews. According to Israeli officials, he was seen at Arafat's Force 17 headquarters in Ramallah on Thursday night, May 8th. Five hours later, the hospital in Ramallah phoned his wife and told her to "come and pick up your husband's body;" his skull was crushed, his hands were tied behind his back, and his mouth was sealed with plastic tape. His burial was delayed because of threats by Muslim elements who wished to prevent his body from being interred in Jerusalem.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed outrage at the murder of Bashiti. The Judea-Samaria Israel Police District spokesman said that the police would not investigate the murder, as the crime was perpetrated in an area under Palestinian jurisdiction. American congressmen, including U.S. House International Relations Committee Chairman Benjamin A. Gilman (R-NY) and Jim Saxton (R-NJ), have labeled the new PA policy "racist and anti-Semitic."

Ali Mahmud Araf Jamhur, 32, an Israeli citizen living in Shuafat, Jerusalem, who sold a house to the Jewish group Elad, was shot to death yesterday near Ramallah. He is the third Arab land dealer to have been murdered in the past few weeks. The Palestinian Authority has denied any involvement in the killing, but Minister of Public Security Avigdor Kahalani said today that there is no doubt that Yasser Arafat gave the order to kill Jamhur; he ordered an intense police investigation into the murder. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated today that the killing poses a great question mark as to the intentions of the PA to attain a peace agreement with Israel.
Jamhur sold a house in Abu Tor to Elad six months ago. The original owners published a notice in the Arab press, saying they did not know that Jamhur dealt with Jews. Last week, Jamhur received a phone call at his place of employment in a restaurant in Clal Center in Jerusalem, telling him to appear for interrogation at the Palestinian GSS in Ramallah. He was released after two days, and he told his family that his interrogators told him there was no evidence against him. Yesterday, he left his home at 10 AM, and his body was found four hours later outside of Ramallah.
Evyatar Cohen, of the Elad group, told Arutz-7 today that the Arabs of eastern Jerusalem are fearful for their lives, because "even if you're only suspected of dealings with Jews, you can be taken to the Palestinian GSS offices, and brutally beaten up, and likely killed a few days or hours later." He blamed Israel for not doing anything to stop the killings. He said, "[PA official] Abu Medein recently said that even Israeli Arabs will be killed if they sell land to Jews.

A U.S. Congressional Task Force report warns that Syria, Iran, Iraq, and the Palestinian Authority are cooperating in preparation for war with Israel. Syrian President Assad and Saddam Hussein of Iraq met secretly to this end in the spring of 1996. Other secret meetings have been held between the Syrian government and the Palestinian Authority, including agreements that the Palestinian police and other "armed elements" will cause "flare-ups in the Israeli interior in case of an escalation in the north." This is the first media revelation of the report, although it was released last month.
In an exclusive interview with Arutz-7 correspondent Yedidya Atlas, U.S. Congressman Jim Saxton (R, N.J.), who heads the Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, said that the American administration is making a mistake in not relating to the possibility of a break-out of war in the Middle East with more seriousness. Saxton said, "Because the American people want to hear that the peace process is succeeding, it becomes less difficult for the administration to brush aside possible threats to Israel, rather than deal with them directly.... According to this report, there is a clear and present danger to Israel and the Israeli people. By watching the policies of the former Israeli government and the current policies of the U.S. Government, one would think that things are just wonderful and that we have nothing to worry about in the Middle East, and all we have to do is make agreements like Hebron and everything will work out fine. But those of us in this Congressional Task Force believe the facts that are presented in this report... and that the [Clinton Administration] should recognize that the reality may not be the same as it would prefer to see..."
Excerpts from the Congressional Task Force report:
"Approaching the end of 1996, the Middle East may well be on the verge of a major regional war. Numerous sources in the region report that the supreme leaders -- both civilians and military -- in most Arab states, as well as in Iran and Pakistan are convinced that the present vulnerability of Israel is so great that there is a unique opportunity to, at the very least, begin the process leading to the destruction of Israel. These circumstances are considered to be a historic window of opportunity the Muslim World should not miss. Toward this end, several Arab states, as well as Iran and Pakistan, have been engaged in a frantic military build-up and active preparations in the last few months."
"In late May 1996, Teheran demonstrated how seriously Iran takes the possibility of dispatching forces to the Israeli front. Iran conducted its largest military exercise ever -- Velayat. The essence of Velayat was a multiple corps deep offensive in the aftermath of a long range advance identical to the distance between Iran and Israel. The objective of Velayat was to confirm Iran's ability to send a strategically effective expeditionary force -- the Velayat Force -- to contribute to a regional war against high-quality armies. The primary intended objective of the exercise is Israel."
"In mid-June, Iran and Syria signed a major
agreement specifically for the codification of their military cooperation against Israel.
By mid-August, Iraq was brought into this framework with the establishment of a tripartite
"joint command" specifically aimed to expedite the preparations for, and conduct
of, "a major war against Israel..." In late September, the Palestinian factor
was added to the joint preparations when the Palestinian Authority (PA) entered into a
major military agreement with Syria. Significantly, this agreement is between the PA, and
not the PLO, and Syria, thus explicitly committing the Palestinian forces in the
territories. The essence of the agreement is for the Palestinian "police" forces
and other armed elements (terrorist organizations) to flare-up the Israeli interior in
case of an escalation in the north.... In return, Syria will provide weapons and advanced
training to PLO units in the refugees camps in southern Lebanon, units disarmed as part of
the Israeli-Lebanese agreements. Meanwhile, the PLO's preparations for an imminent war are
evident. In Gaza, Arafat ordered the marked acceleration of the building of a personal
command bunker, four stories deep. Moreover, the PLO is rapidly building all over Gaza a
chain of command centers, ammunition and weapons-storage areas -- all of them underground
and well fortified to even withstand Israeli bombing and shelling. The PA's security
services are also accumulating large stockpiles of anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons,
including missiles, even though they are forbidden by the Oslo Accords."

The Washington Post reports (12 November, p. D1) that the American science fiction film Independence Day may be banned in Lebanon because scientist David Levinson, the Jeff Goldblum character who saves the planet, is Jewish.
The Shiite Muslim group Hizbullah has denounced the film, now playing in Lebanon, calling it "propaganda for the so-called genius of the Jews and their concern for humanity." Even many upscale Christian moviegoers in East Beirut are upset that the film's heroes are a Jew and a black man, while some of the Christian white characters have less flattering roles.
In the version playing in Lebanon, all of the scenes in which the Goldblum character or his father are shown to be Jewish were cut by Lebanese censors before it could be approved by the Interior Ministry's Public Security Department. Also censored were the few seconds in which Israeli troops and Arabs work side by side in the desert to fight the invading aliens.
Ibrahim Musawi, Hizbullah's foreign press liaison in
Beirut, said, "What do you think the Hezbollah would say about this film? We are
making the connection that this film, playing in Lebanese cinemas, is polishing and
presenting the Jews as a very humane people. You are releasing mistaken images about
them." Hizbullah also mysteriously alleges that the film "hints that the source
of danger to mankind emanates from certain parts of the Third World, particularly from the
Arab and Islamic world." ====

Amman, Jordan--When the first Scud missile crashed into Tel Aviv three weeks ago, a secondary boom sounded at Fouad al-Afghani's souvenir shop.
Now, at one end of a makeshift assembly line, Mr. al-Afghani's cousin cuts pieces of zinc in the shape of tiny missiles. Another cousin polishes and cleans the metal. A third paints the flag of Iraq on the projectile's tiny warhead. The finished product, fitted with a pin or key chain, is a miniature Scud missile engraved with the words "Allahu Akbar"-God is Greatest.
"Scuds are the best thing for business since the intifada," says Mr. al-Afghani, who molded hands clutching stones to commemorate the Palestinian uprising. When demand for these slumped, he fell back on worry beads and olive-wood figurines of Bedouin. Now, scales of Scud souvenirs are so brisk that the al-Afghani family is working 16 hours a day to keep up with orders for everything from buttons to wall hangings adorned with the Iraqi weapon.
"Brooches are the most popular, because people can wear them close to their heart," he says.
Scud mania is breaking out all over Jordan, and in other nations where Saddam Hussein and his missiles have become symbols of Arab strength and pride. On the mean streets of Lebanon, young militiamen have adopted "Scud" as a nom de guerre, and they also use the word as a term of respect, roughly equivalent to an American youth saying "he's bad".
The Iraqi president is revered as Abu Scud-Father of the Scud. (Foster father, actually: The missile is made by the Soviets and modified by Iraqi technicians.)
In Algeria last week, thousands of Islamic fundamentalists carried cardboard models of Scuds in a march supporting Iraq's "holy war." Algerian youths also have changed the traditional Arabic greeting-salaam aleikum, peace be with you-to Saddam aleikum- Saddam be with you.
The craze may just be the beginning. Scud songs haven't yet rocketed to the top of Arab charts, but at the Raouf Center music store in Amman, youths besiege the counter in search of a new album of Scud songs recorded by a local Palestinian band. They groan when Maklouf Mohammed, the sales assistant, tells them they will have to wait two more weeks. As consolation, he offers a collection of songs about the Iraqi president, including "Saddam the Arab" and "Our Friend Saddam."
"We have sold 200 copies of this" since the war, he says. "Nobody wants Michael Jackson any more."
Across town, at the Qucik Meal Restaurant, Mahmoud Ibrahim plans to honor Iraq with a "Saddam Burger" or torpedo shaped "Scud Sandwich," a sort fo Arabic version of the American hero or submarine.
Mouther Khouri and Mahi Abu Kaf, crafted a two-foot long missile made of sponge cake, with marzipan icing and two phrases squiggled on top : "Happy Birthday" and "Al Hussein," the name Iraq has given to its improved version of the Soviet Scud.
When Nasser Lattouf turned 30 last week, his cake came with an eight inch edible Scud in place of candles. Midway through the party came news that Iraq had lobbed another salvo of real Scuds into Tel Aviv. "I thought, 'What a nice birthday present from Saddam,'" says the Palestinian pharmacist.
Even in the hushed corridors of Al Amal Maternity Hospital Scud-mania is having an impact, says obstetrician Mahmud Taher. Noting that Iraq launched two Scuds the previous evening, he says, "So this morning we should have at least two Saddams." One of them is already sleeping soundly in a blue crib in the hospital nursery. His mother, 30 year old Shireen Mosuli, says she decided on the day of the U.S. attack on Iraq to name her baby Saddam if she had a boy.

The New York Yankees have been blacklisted by the Arab league. They are No. 288 on a partial list of about 300 American firms on the Arab League's boycott list. Nobody knows why.
What could the Yankees possibly have done to offend the Arabs, except not hitting?" asked Will Maslow, editor of the Boycott Report, which keeps track of Arab boycott activities for the American Jewish Congress.
Among the other American companies on the Arab boycott list, which is reportedly the first updated tally to be obtained in many years, are Aetna Life and Casualty, AT&T, Bell Telephone Laboratories, Comsat, Mattel, Ford, NCR, Colgate Palmolive, Avis, Avon, Paramount Pictures, Du Pont, American Express, Bulova Watch, Helena Rubinstein, Chrysler, Colt Industries, Hughes Aircraft and the California Pretzel Company.
