The Perpetual Worry Trap
People can be trapped into thinking over and over about problems that bother them.. They may do this because they want something and so keep trying to think how to get it. This leads to thinking about the obstacles in the way. The obstacles may be difficult people in which case angry may result. Wanting then becomes fuel for anger. People may attribute failure to get what they want to inadequacy and so feel low self concept.
This can be diagrammed as follows:
Want -----> Think about obstacles -----> Feel anger or other painful emotion.
This can be attacked at each step. People can formulate a plan of action to achieve their goal. Once they have a plan it becomes easier to carry out the decision not to think about it all the time. Techniques such as positive displacement can be used to help
