I know an American whose mother died while he was visiting her in Israel.  She had outlived most of her friends and I thought the man would go to a practically empty funeral ceremony and be alone during the mourning period.  Instead all his relatives and friends showed up.  Even the staff of the nursing home came to the funeral.  People kept visiting that man afterwards to be supportive.  That made a big difference to him.   When someone dies one of the best things we can do for that person is to give emotional support to surviving family and friends.
