Many policemen are being shot by criminals who should be behind bars.  They are let out because of rules passed by leftist District Attorneys (D.A.s) who believe it is racist to keep black criminals behind bars.  The New York district attorney, Alvin Bragg has passed rules that don't keep many criminals behind bars.

On Jan 21, 2020, the police received a call for help for a domestic violence incident between Lashawn McNeil and his mother.  Jason Rivera and his partner, Officer Wilbert Mora and a third policeman went to help.  As they approached the bedroom where Lashawn McNeil was staying McNeil opened fire and struck Rivera and Mora. The third officer returned fire and critically injured McNeil.

According to police, McNeil had been arrested five times before and was on probation after being convicted of a felony drug charge in New York City in 2003. He was arrested four times outside the city on various charges, including assault on an officer and weapon possession. If he had been kept in jail Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora would still be alive.

The widow of policeman Jason Rivera mentioned Jason's thoughts about overly lenient D.A.s at his funeral. Here is what she said:

Another reason violent criminals are let out of jail is because in many cases states do not allow bail because bail is considered unfair to people who don't have the money to pay it.   In addition police have been defunded, they have less money, which means there are fewer police and more criminals who haven't been caught and put in jail.

After Jason Rivera and his partner were shot there was an outpouring of support for the police.  Black Lives Matter called the expressions of support for the police Copaganda.  Copaganda is a combination of the words Cop and propaganda, the idea of the word being that statements in favor of the police are wrong and meant to deceive people into seeing police as good guys when they are really bad guys.
