Is Islam a Compassionate Religion?

On Sept. 11, 2001, I saw the real face of Islam.
I saw the happiness on the faces of our people because so many infidels were slaughtered so easily.
I saw many people who started thanking Allah for this massacre."

Khaled Waleed

When Osama bin Laden refers to Allah in his speeches he says:

In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate

and then goes on to call Muslims to Jihad against the West.

The following was heard on the flight recorder of flight 93 before it was crashed into the ground by Islamic hijackers (New York Sun, April 13, 2006)

On flight 93 a hijacker yelled "In the name of Allah the most merciful the most compassionate".  Then comes a rapid sequence of "No, No, No, No, No," followed by a loud "Lie down. Lie down. Down. Down. Down" and the sounds of another scuffle in the cockpit as if the hijackers are trying to control someone.

A despairing male voice says: "Please, please, please..." then "please, please don't hurt me," then simply,"Oh God."

Moments later one of the hijackers says confidently, "No more."  But the showdown is not over.  Another member of the crew, believed to be a flight attendant, is apparently still alive in the cockpit.

"Are you talking to me?" One of the hijackers shouts.  "No, no, no," the unidentified person says before repating three times, "I don't want to die."  Then there is a "no," the sound of thumping and thuds, a moan, whimpers, and a long groan.  Then more blows before someone declares: That's it."

One of the would be hijackers Zacarias Moussaoui heard three days of anguished testimony of the families of the victims of 9/11.  Asked by federal prosecutor Robert Spencer about his reaction to the harrowing testimony of an Army colonel who narrowly survived the attack on the Pentagon, Moussaoui said the testimony "made my day," and added, "I was regretful he didn't die."

"No regret. No remorse," he said, adding he wished the Sept. 11 attacks also "happened on the 12th, the 13th, the 14th and the 15th . . . every day until we get you."

He cruelly mocked a U.S. sailor who wept on the stand as she told of the deaths of two subordinates - sneering that it was "disgusting for a military person" to cry.  Asked if he was happy to hear her sobs, he answered, "Make my day."  (New York Post, 4/14/2006)

Robert Baer, in his book, Sleeping with the Devil spoke about running into an old friend by the name of Khalid he had made at Georgetown University, who had become an Islamic judge in the Sudan.  Khalid sentenced a man who had been caught stealing a pot from an open air market to twenty lashes.  When he did so, Khalid said:

In the name of the merciful and compassionate, I find you guilty of theft, I sentence you to twenty lashes.

After the man's shirt was taken off Khalid gripped a leather whip and raised his hand.   Baer writes:

As he was about to strike, he intoned, "Bismi ar-rahman, ar-rahim" - "In the name of the merciful and the compassionate" and brought the whip down with a force only a man of his size could attain.  At every lash, the penitent spit out "God is great!" between his clenched teeth.

Many Muslims in addition to saying Allah is merciful insist that Islam is a peaceful religion.  When the pope quoted a man who said Islam was violent Muslims engaged in violent protest and killed Christians.  Jamie Glazov, one of the editors of Frontpage Magazine wrote:

I have myself received several death threats over the years from certain Muslims. Paradoxically, these death threats were preceded, in almost every case, with the perpetrator of the threat trying to insist to me that Islam is a religion of peace. This is how it would go: I get an email from a Muslim reprimanding me for some kind of comment or argument I made about Islam having a tenet of violence. The writer insists to me that Islam is a religion of peace. I respond by asking about and referring to the verses in the Qur’an that promote violence (i.e. 9:5). Then, within two or three exchanges, I start getting threatening emails – from the same individual who started out telling me that Islam is a religion of peace.

Robert Spencer, the author of The Truth About Muhammad, told Jamie Glazov how a man who threatened him inisted that Islam is a religion of peace.  The man wrote:

“I am coming to America to hunt down Spencer. Very soon he will be delivered!

I will be violent against anyone who hurts Muslim feelings about Prophet.

It is a religion of peace for everyone until some duckhead sprews out his damn saliva on a senstive topic as this. Spencer will be delivered.

He will be killed for sure. Tell you FBI and CIA. You don't know Muslims. They will rip apart US you know why? because America has insulted their religion.”

The United States supposedly liberated Afghanistan from the Taliban but in March of 2006 Afghanistan sentenced Abdul Rahman to death for converting to Christianity.  Italy offered him asylum and he was released by the Afghan government against the demands of the Afghani parliament.  Muslim clerics in Afghanistan condemned Rahman's release, saying it was a "betrayal of Islam," and threatened to incite violent protests.

Some 500 Muslim leaders, students and others gathered Wednesday in a mosque in southern Qalat town and criticized the government for releasing Rahman, said Abdulrahman Jan, the top cleric in Zabul province.

He said the government should either force Rahman to convert back to Islam or kill him.

"This is a terrible thing and a major shame for Afghanistan," he said.

Compassion to infidels  is shameful for fundamentalists Muslims. (Italy Welcomes Man Who Fled Afghanistan, Excite News, 3/29/06)

Sam Grace, a spokesman for Egyptian Copts, told WorldnetDaily (6/13/07) that because Egypt's constitution says that laws derive from the Quran, the persecution of Christians there is not only allowed, but endorsed, by government officials.

"In the last 10 years, more than 5,000 Christians have been massacred in Egypt.  Hundreds of businesses and homes first have been looted, then burned and destroyed.  Churches have been burned and destroyed.

And you know what? Not one Muslim has been indicted, let alone convicted,...

"Especially on Friday, after the Friday prayers, the Muslim mobs are incited on attacking Christians.  It happened last Friday. Mobs attacked businesses and burned them, and Christian homes and two churches in Alexandria."

"The life of a Christian in Egypt is now worth zero. Every Muslim now knows killing a Christian [is not prosecuted,]"

There are good compassionate Muslims doctors we need to remember that but not all of them are.  Perhaps the fellow described in the Independent 3/23/2006 wasn't a real doctor.

When policemen, soldiers and officials in Kirkuk who were injured in insurgent attacks arrived in the emergency room of the hospital, they hoped their chances of surviving had gone up as doctors tended their wounds.

In fact, many of the wounded were almost certain to die because one of the doctors at the Republic Hospital was a member of an insurgent cell. Pretending to treat the injured men, he killed 43 of them by secretly administering lethal injections, a police inquiry has revealed.

"He was called Dr Louay and when the terrorists had failed to kill a policeman or a soldier he would finish them off," Colonel Yadgar Shukir Abdullah Jaff, a senior Kirkuk police chief, told The Independent. "He gave them a high dosage of a medicine which increased their bleeding so they died from loss of blood."

Caroline Glick in an article about Hirsi Ali mentioned some atrocities that happened shortly before she wrote her article that give us an idea about the "compassion" of Islam.  She wrote (frontpagemag 5/11/07):

Sunday Muslims shot up the Omariyah elementary school in Gaza. One man was killed and six were wounded in the onslaught. The murderers attacked because the UN-run school in Rafah had organized a sports day for the children, in which little boys would be playing with little girls.

The idea that that boys and girls might play sports together was too much for the righteous believers. It was an insult to Islam, they said. And so they decided to kill the little boys and girls.

On May 3, in Gujrat, Pakistan, Muslims detonated a bomb at the gate of a girls' school. Their righteous wrath was raised by the notion that girls would learn to read and write. That too, they felt, is an insult to Islam.

On April 28, US soldiers in Iraq discovered detonation wires across the street from the newly built Huda Girls' school in Tarmiya, north of Baghdad. They followed the wire to its source and discovered the school had been built as a deathtrap. The pious Muslims who constructed the school had filled propane tanks with explosives and buried them beneath the floor. They built artillery shells into the ceiling and the floor. To save the world for Allah, they decided to butcher little girls.

And the brutality is not limited to the Middle East. Last month in Oslo, Norway, Norwegian-Somali women's rights activist Kadra was brutally beaten by a crowd of men piously calling out "Allah Akhbar." She was attacked for exposing the fact that inside their mosques in Norway, Norwegian imams praise female genital mutilation in the name of Allah.

No matter how violent the actions of Muslims are there are Muslims and non-Muslims who insist that Islam is a religion of peace.  Here is a good reply on video by a woman from Poland.
